Pioneer Reservoir
J-2 Contracting has a long history at the Pioneer Reservoir Complex in Kersey, CO. J-2's Principals originally owned the land and successfully acquired permits to mine the gravel, installed a slurry wall, and eventually mined the property beginning in 2013. Mining operations created 1800 acre feet of water storage over the following 7 years. The parcel was sold the Central Weld Water Conservancy District (CCWCD) with the intent to add to their available water storage volume. CCWCD contracted with J-2 Contracting to build the infill/outlet infrastructure for Pioneer Reservoir. This entailed constructing a 12' diameter x 78' deep manhole to house a 215 hp pump capable of running at 3750 gallons per minute including the associated outlet piping so water can be removed from the reservoir.
J-2 also constructed a concrete diversion and rundown structure with rip rap slope protection so the reservoir can be filled from the adjacent irrigation ditch. It was a rewarding project for J-2 since we were able to transform an open field into a gravel mine before becoming a critical piece of water augmentation infrastructure in Northern Colorado.
