J-2 Contracting was selected by the City of Fort Collins as their CMGC partner on the Environmental Learning Center Flow Restoration project in Fort Collins, CO. This project involved regrading nearly 1800 linear feet of the Poudre River and adjacent floodplain to reduce a headcut that existed on river-right in the corridor. Construction elements included installing a concrete diversion structure and headgate, boulder crest & sill structures, riffles, various custom log structures, wetland/floodplain grading, revegetation and systematic native fish pond designed to help an endangered fish species native to the Poudre River.
J-2 assisted with design completion, value engineering, permitting, procurement, GMP cost estimation, and construction of this amazing project. Beginning at the 60% design phase J-2 was able to assist with value engineering efforts totaling $180K worth savings. To construct major structural river elements J-2 designed a lined clear water diversion ditch that took river flows out of the work zone. The construction of the river corridor was an enormous success and the project worked as intended by reducing the head cut and sedimentation transport while restoring flows in the Poudre River. The ELC project has received numerous awards after completion as a premier river reconstruction project in Colorado.
